REGRESAR

National Day of Memory for Truth and Justice

On the National Day of Memory for Truth and Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina launches the International Campaign for the Right to Identity, which aims to promote the search for kidnapped granddaughters and grandsons during the last civic-military dictatorship in Argentina, who may be residing abroad.

The initiative was organized jointly with the National Commission for the Right to Identity (CoNaDI) and the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, both in the preparation of the publicity material and in the training of consular personnel.

This is a campaign that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina will carry out through all its diplomatic representations throughout this year, so that people who have doubts about their identity, or that of another person, can contact the Argentine consulates abroad to receive advice.

Eleven virtual training meetings were held in which all the consulates and consular sections of Argentine embassies abroad participated. In addition to Grandmothers and CoNaDI, the restored granddaughters and grandchildren and relatives of Grandmothers who are looking for appropriate sisters or brothers participated in these meetings, giving their testimony so that the consular staff can make direct contact with this search and know the importance that this matter has for the families and for the Argentine State.

Around 150 people in the Ministry received training in order to obtain tools to provide accurate information for possible queries.

This is the first time that a global campaign has been carried out, covering all regions of the world.

With this Campaign, the Argentine State takes another step to guarantee the right to identity, deepening the accompaniment of the long search carried out by the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo and the families to recover those babies, girls and boys, today adult people, who still live with their forged identities.
