Electronic Travel Authorization (AVE) for Argentina Tourism
The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), known in Spanish as Autorización de Viaje Electrónica (AVE), is an official document that allows eligible foreign nationals to travel to Argentina exclusively for tourism purposes.
Important: The Consular Section does not process AVE applications and cannot provide assistance or guidance regarding the application. For all inquiries, contact the National Directorate of Migrations (DNM) directly at: ave@migraciones.gov.ar
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must hold a valid ordinary passport and meet one of the following criteria:
- Valid U.S. Visa: You must hold a valid U.S. visa in one of the following categories: B2, J, B1, O, P (P1–P2–P3), E, or H-1B. Note: The U.S. visa must remain valid throughout the AVE processing period, the AVE’s validity period, and your entire stay in Argentina.
- U.S. Visa Exemption (ESTA): If you are from a jurisdiction whose citizens do not require a U.S. visa (e.g., ESTA-eligible countries), you may apply for the AVE if you can show at least one entry into the United States within the last two (2) years, or you hold a current ESTA, or you hold one of the U.S. visas listed above.
Purpose and Application Process
- Purpose of Travel: Tourism only.
The AVE does not permit business or any activity other than tourism.
- Application: Submit your application directly through the DNM website
- Cost: The cost of the AVE is USD 400.
Validity, Duration of Stay, and Processing Time
- Processing Time: The DNM processes tourist AVE applications within 20 business days. This period may be extended if needed.
- Validity: The AVE is valid for 90 days (3 consecutive months) from the date of issue.
- Duration of Stay: You may stay in Argentina for up to 90 consecutive days from your first entry.
- Multiple Entries: Multiple entries and exits are allowed during the 90-day validity period.
- Extension: Once in Argentina, you may request one 90-day extension from the DNM.
Important Entry Information
- Proof of Payment: The payment receipt (Comprobante de Pago de Tasa) does not authorize entry into Argentina.
- Valid Entry Document: Only the Electronic Travel Authorization (Comprobante de AVE) is accepted for entry.
- Travel Requirement: You must carry a printed copy of your AVE before boarding your flight.
- Consular Visa Option: If your AVE is denied—or if you prefer—you may apply for a consular visa at the Consulate (separate visa fee applies). Please refer to the Consulate’s visa application guidelines.
