REGRESAR

Accession of Singapore to the 1961 Hague Convention (Apostille)

Simplification for the certification of public documents

As of 16 September 2021, Singapore becomes a Contracting Party of the 1961 Hague Convention (Apostille) Convention to all effects. The Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) has been appointed as Singapore's Competent Authority to issue apostilles in order to certify the origin of public documents issued by Singapore authorities.

Argentina is also a Contracting Party of the Hague Convention and therefore recognizes apostilled public documents issued by Singapore authorities and apostilled notarized documents without the need for them to be previously legalized. In light of this, as of 16 September 2021, the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Argentine Republic will no longer legalize Singapore public documents/notarized documents.

With regard to customs and commercial documents, please note that the Consular Section will continue to legalize said documents as usual, this is certifying/validating the signature of the Singapore Academy of Law´s competent signatories. Therefore, the apostille should not be affixed on these types of documents.

Please note that until 15 September, 2021 inclusive, in order for Singapore´s public and private documents to be duly validated/certified, it will be mandatory to have them legalized by SAL and afterwards by this Consular Section.
